Exercise Toubkal Tiger was a high altitude trekking expedition carried out in the Atlas mountains of Morocco over the period 14 – 26 Oct 2015. The expedition consisted of 14 personnel, 12 Reserves and 2 regular soldiers of 103 Battalion REME.

The expedition aim was to trek up 3 of the highest peaks in the Atlas mountains, Mgoun (4068m), Ouanoukrim (4089m) and Toubkal, the second highest mountain in Africa (4167m). After a gruelling 9 hour climb in severe weather conditions all members of the team summited Mgoun. The summit of Ouanoukrim was cancelled due to poor weather and also due to injuries and some members of the team being exhausted. Nine members of the expedition were able to summit Toubkal which was an amazing experience. We were able to do this with our Moroccan Army counterparts who had joined us for the expedition.

This trek was arduous, carried out in constantly changing weather conditions - every expedition member was pushed to their limit both physically and psychologically. The sense of achievement on summiting the trekking peaks was immense and something that those participating will never forget.

The breath-taking beauty of the Atlas mountains is hard to put into words as was the generosity and kindness of the Moroccan people we met along the way. It was an experience that all expedition members will cherish for a very long time. Rest and Recuperation was spent in the madness of Marrakech, a far cry from the quietness and peace of the mountains.
